Greenhorn

the freshman-guide

Dear Freshers,

To have a perfect start to your studies, we want to give you with this guide everything you need apart from your textbooks:
Get to know the student groups and student councils where you can get involved and make new contacts. Find out what the AStA, your General Student Committee, offers and what the constituted student body is, of which you are now a member of and learn how you can participate in the democratic processes on campus. In addition, get all the helpful tips and tricks on offers, services and advice centres on campus.

We hope you will have a great time here, be it on Campus I, Campus II or at home in front of your PC. If you have any questions, we are here for you as the student representation or more specifically as the General Student Committee (in German: Allgemeiner Studierendenausschuss or AStA for short), not least with this greenhorn.

STUDENT REPRESENTATION

What does ‘constituted student body’ mean? What exactly is a student council and what is the StuPa? Which AStA departments are there, how can I get involved and what offers does the AStA have? And what does this all have to do with one another and with my semester fee?

CAMPUS LIFE

There are lots of university groups on campus that you can join and get involved in. Everyone can find a suitable group here. There are also a number of university political groups that campaign for the interests of students and run for the student parliament and the university senate in the annual university elections.
Not to forget, of course, your student council, which you are welcome to visit.
Here you will find an overview of the currently active groups, their projects and contents and how you can get in touch with them.

COUNSELLING & SERVICES

Where can I get help with problems during my studies, questions about student finance, legal or psychosocial problems?
The counselling and services on campus can be confusing and difficult to find. We will give you an overview!

INFO & TIPS

You don’t have to seek a consultation for every question. Here we give you a compact overview of useful offers on campus and lots of information and tips about studying, from student finance, job fairs and finding accommodation to questions about StudIP and Porta.
